JOMS Article Supports the Safety of the OMS Anesthesia Model
The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) has shared an important new article published online in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The study provides clinical outcome data supporting the safety and effectiveness of the oral and maxillofacial surgery anesthesia model.
These findings are especially timely as organized dentistry continues to evaluate anesthesia and sedation standards, guidelines, and policies. The OMS anesthesia model is supported by extensive specialty-specific education and training, comprehensive patient evaluation, appropriate monitoring, emergency preparedness, and a longstanding commitment to patient safety.
This publication reinforces the importance of ensuring that anesthesia policies are based on objective evidence and demonstrated clinical outcomes while appropriately recognizing differences in specialty training, competency, and experience.
NYSSOMS encourages members to review the article and share it with colleagues, organizational leaders, and policymakers involved in discussions concerning dental anesthesia and sedation policy.
